Office History

The office was renamed Institutional Effectiveness and moved as a unit from the President’s Office to the Academic Affairs. The unit included offices of Institutional Research, Faculty Advancement, Staff Development, and Planning & Assessment. The Assistant Vice President position was reclassified as Associate Vice President.

The Associate Director of Institutional Research was assigned the duties of Chief Data Governance Officer for the institution in addition to duties for the TSUS office. Staff Development was moved to Human Resources. The offices of Institutional Research, University Planning & Assessment, and Academic Advancement & Assessment remained under Institutional Effectiveness.

Academic Development was moved from Institutional Effectiveness to the Associate Provost. Academic Assessment duties were brought under University Planning and Assessment. The Director of Institutional Research was reclassified as Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research. The Associate Director was reclassified as Director of Institutional Research but maintained duties for both Texas State and the TSUS office.

A new charge was given to the Office of Institutional Research to develop a data strategy to elevate the data and analytics maturity of the institution. Institutional Research was moved out of Institutional Effectiveness to elevate its role in overseeing the new data strategy as a stand-alone unit and reflect the expanded duties being assigned. The offices of Planning and University Assessment remained under Institutional Effectiveness. 

To further reflect the expanding scope of duties and responsibilities, the office was rebranded as Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research (DAIR). As the university’s central hub for data and analytics, DAIR increased efforts to strengthen data governance, advance data literacy, and provide actionable insights to promote student success, research advancement, and institutional excellence.

Texas State designated the Assistant Vice President for Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research as the university’s inaugural Chief Data and Analytics Officer and elevated the position to the Associate Vice President level. This change reflects the expanded responsibilities and oversight of the university’s data strategy led by the office. Through its enhanced role and growing collaboration across the university, DAIR continues to lead the way in strengthening Texas State’s shared capacity for innovation, transparency, and continuous improvement.
